M.A. Stacie is never without a book or her eReader. A voracious reader, with a love of sexy, yet angst ridden novels, she adores getting lost in new worlds. Her need to write did not grip her until after her second son was born, when her previous rambles became fully fledged stories.
She describes herself as one huge contradiction, and though not the most conventional of hobbies, she counts getting new tattoos as one of hers. Running keeps her sane, along with knitting and listening to loud music.
M. A. Stacie lives in the UK with her husband and three sons.
Christmas Cocktails anyone?
Christmas is the best time of year to kick back and enjoy yourself, right? I absolutely love having all my family and friends together. It’s my favourite time of year, and each year there’s usually alcohol involved.
They say experimentation is good…so last year I got a cocktail set, with a funky little mixer thingy. After that the rest is a blur.
I tried out many standard cocktails, but liked making my own little mixtures for more.
- 1 ounce peppermint schnapps
- 1 ounce Kahlua
- 1 ounce Irish Cream
Pour all ingredients into your shaker, along with some ice. Shake thoroughly, then strain the ingredients into a chilled martini glass. I decorated the rim of the glass with some sugar or some spinkles.
Be warned! There is a lot of alcohol in this one!
It’s a lovely drink for Xmas eve, after the kids have gone to bed and the presents are ready and waiting.
- 1 part grenadine syrup
- 1 part green creme de menthe
- 1 part peppermint schnapps
Pour grenadine into a shot glass until about 1/3 full.
Carefully and slowly layer the creme de menthe on top. Lastly, add then the peppermint schnapps.
Chilling them in the fridge for a little while afterward will help ‘set’ the layers.
A great cocktail to show off at parties!
- 1/2 ounce orange curacao
- 3/4 ounce cinnamon schnapps
- 1/2 ounce vodka
- 6 ounces cranberry juice
Heat the cranberry juice up until it’s hot. Pour everything else into a coffee mug, or an Irish coffee mug so you can see the contents. Then slowly add the hot cranberry juice. The temperature of the drink will be warm.
I like to top it with whipped cream and some sugar sprinkles. I might have also been known to add a cadbury’s flake.
I love serving this one on Christmas day after everyone has eaten and we’re all sitting down to watch a family movie. Bliss.
Hot Buttered Rum
- 2 ounces of dark rum
- cinnamon stick
- 1 square butter
- 1 slice lemon peel
- Boiled water
Put the cinnamon stick, lemon peel and rum into a mug. Fill it with boiling water. Float the butter on top, then stir it in. Or serve it with the butter floating and let your guests stir it in with their cinnamon sticks.
So, if Christmas isn’t your thing. If you hate the holidays, and want it all gone as fast as you, then this drink is for you! Not only will the alcohol make the hours pass by in a blur, but it’s also perfectly titled…
- 2 ounces Midori
- 1/2 ounce lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon syrup
Mix the ingredients in a shaker with some ice. Shake well and strain into a glass of your choice.
Garnish with a maraschino cherry and a candy cane (because, sod them! It is Xmas no matter what they say.)
Eat, drink, be very, very merry.
